Prior to a fantasy baseball draft, it's imperative to have identified mid-round starting pitchers who can provide you tremendous value considering they really perform like pitchers who were drafted two or three rounds earlier. Here's a look at five who undoubtedly fall into that category.

Carlos Carrasco made 14 solid starts for the Cleveland Indians in 2014, going 8-7 with a stellar 2.55 ERA overall. Carrasco had his WHIP at an outstanding 0.985 to go with a 9.4 K/9 ratio, and has gained a fair amount of respect considering his current ADP. However, he still has potential of those you would expect two rounds earlier if he stays healthy.

4. Jose Quintana - LHP - Chicago White Sox

Jose Quintana is simply one of MLBs unknown gems hidden on the south side of Chicago. The White Sox do not get a ton of attention nationally so oftentimes he's overlooked, but don't make the same mistake yourself. Last season, Quintana made all scheduled 32 starts and went 9-11 with a 3.32 ERA, 1.243 WHIP and a solid 8.0 K/9 (strikeouts per nine innings) ratio. This season, Quintana could easily go 15-10 on a much better team.

3. Scott Kazmir - LHP - Oakland Athletics

What a story Scott Kazmir has been over the last few years. He was away from the game, then in independent ball, ultimately to make a comeback to MLB and pitch on top of his game. In 2014, Kazmir made 32 starts, going 15-9 with a 3.32 ERA and 1.161 WHIP. Kazmir's K/9 ratio was lower (7.2) than his career average (8.7) but still serviceable. Kazmir is still just 31 despite it seeming like he's played MLB for 100 years.

Another MLB gem who doesn't get enough credit due to where he plays is Dallas Keuchel of the Houston Astros. The southpaw made 29 starts for Houston in 2014 going 12-9 with a 2.93 ERA and 1.175 WHIP. He even led the AL in complete games (5), which undoubtedly helps out in formats where IP is tallied. Houston didn't win many games, yet Keuchel won 12, which is all you need to know about what he can provide your roster.

For as long as he's in San Diego with the Padres, Andrew Cashner is going to be underrated due to the fact that the casual MLB fan simply does not get to see the team enough. In 2014, Cashner made 19 starts and went just 5-7, but pitched to a 2.55 ERA. He simply projects to do big things on a heavily improved Padres roster in 2015. If you're looking for K's, he is probably not your guy, but in wins, ERA and WHIP -- Cashner's got you covered.
