The Los Angeles Angels, to much of MLB‘s surprise, had a comeback season in 2014. Mainly, their pitching staff surprised; but in reality, many of their payers are being undervalued since they’re a west coast team that many die hard baseball and fantasy baseball fans simply just don’t get to see enough to get a good grasp of.

Outfielder Kole Calhoun is undoubtedly one of these players as he produced solidly for the Angels in 2014 and projects to do so again this season.

In 2014, Calhoun made 537 plate appearances for the Angels, hitting .272 with 17 HRs, 58 RBIs, 31 doubles and five triples on his way to a serviceable, albeit mediocre .325 OBP. He’ll never overwhelm statistically, but what he does provide can be incredibly valuable as a bench player on your roster.

Currently, Calhoun is ranked as the 100th player overall according to Fantasy Pros and carries a 102.5 (overall) ADP, which seems reasonable, but perhaps somewhat lower than he should be. There’s a good five players, including RP Trevor Rosenthal, RP Kenley Jansen and SP Alex Wood who Calhoun has more value than. 2015 fantasy baseball is pitching-rich, so taking a hitter like Calhoun makes plenty of sense.

Calhoun is not a must-draft player, but he carries appeal going so late in standard drafts. In AL-only leagues, there’s enough statistical production in his repertoire to use him as your second or third outfielder on a fairly consistent basis. Since Josh Hamilton relapsed and is facing reprimand from the league, the Angels need an outfielder to pick up some slack. You better believe it will be Calhoun.
