Fantasy Football 2015 Buy or Sell: Mike Evans

Bucs
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the worst team in the NFL in 2014. Tampa Bay had inefficiency all over its roster, and particularly so at quarterback. Although he got off to a slow start, WR Mike Evans still managed to have an outstanding rookie campaign despite the adversity.

Evans started 15 games, and was targeted 122 times. He made 68 receptions for 1,051 yards and an excellent 12 TDs (tied for third highest total in NFL). Put simply, Evans was a beast, and far outdid what anyone could’ve expected considering he was playing for such an unstable unit.

The Buccaneers selected Jameis Winston with the No. 1 overall pick, and firmly believe he can blossom into an elite, franchise quarterback. Sure, every rookie gunslinger experiences growing pains upon entering the league. However, it’s unlikely Winston can play much worse than Josh McCown did in 2014, so the idea that Winston won’t be able to feed Evans adequately for fantasy purposes is simply outrageous.

Evans is feared by opposing defensive backs out wide, in the red zone, and seemingly anywhere else on the field he decides to strike, as evidenced by the video below.

Currently, Evans is being drafted as the WR11 and carries an ADP of 27. Here’s a projection for what his statline should look like at the end of the season:

Receiving Projection: 74 receptions – 1,175 yards – 13 TDs

Selecting Evans over a guy like Emmanuel Sanders, who has a much higher profile, is going to be a difficult for the masses on draft night. Sanders plays for a better team, with one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, and has played in the NFL for five years compared to Evans’ lone season. However, Evans will finish the campaign with more fantasy points than Sanders, making him the correct choice to make.

Evans is undoubtedly a heavy “buy” candidate in 2015. Don’t miss out.
