Building Perfect MLB FanDuel Lineup For Apr. 13

By Roje Smith

Although yesterday’s lineup did better than Monday’s disaster with Steven Matz, it still fell short. Jose Fernandez was a bit shaky at the start, and despite turning in a quality start with five strikeouts, he didn’t justify his price. The highlight of the night was J.J. Hardy hitting two HRs, but we will need everyone to be productive in order to have a profitable night. Tonight won’t get any easier as the MLB is giving us 12 games to sift through and analyze. There are many possibilities when it comes to constructing the ideal roster and I will show you one of the ways that it can be done. Let’s start building the perfect MLB FanDuel lineup for April 13.

(P) Carlos Rodon - Chicago White Sox - $8,500

Pitching options are a tad tricky tonight outside of Carlos Carrasco, and I don't feel like paying $10,200 for him. Instead I decided to select a pitcher that has similar upside with a cheaper price in Carlos Rodon. He will face the Minnesota Twins and they're currently ranked 26th in team wOBA with a .276. They were ranked 23rd in that regard in 2015 and I feel this bodes well for Rodon. He should register 6-8 strikeouts and the win.

(C) Yan Gomes - Cleveland Indians - $2,700

Yan Gomes is hot right now and currently owns a .371 wOBA for the season. He will be facing Drew Smyly tonight and he's been successful against him in the past. Gomes is batting .500 against Smyly over eight ABs and that includes two HRs. Additionally, Smyly has a HR/9 rate of 1.27 since 2014 and this only helps Gomes' cause for tonight. If he doesn't hit a HR, then he should register at least one hit, an RBI and a run scored.

(1B) Paul Goldschmidt - Arizona Diamondbacks - $5,000

Paul Goldschmidt has started his past three seasons well and he's doing it again this year. He currently owns a wOBA of .434 and the only negative that I can call out is his K-rate of 31.4 percent. However, I don't feel that he will be striking out much tonight against Alex Wood. Goldschmidt is batting .444 against Wood over nine ABs with two HRs. I have a strong feeling that he will hit his third HR off of Wood tonight.

(2B) Scooter Gennett - Milwaukee Brewers - $3,100

Scooter Gennett is off to a surprising hot start this season and his .549 wOBA so far is the proof. I feel that it would be wise to continue riding his hot streak as he faces Mike Leake tonight. Gennett is batting .421 against him over 19 ABs including a HR and four singles. It also helps that Leake has been significantly worse against LHBs since 2014. This should help Gennett have a productive night with two hits and at least one RBI.

(3B) Nolan Arenado - Colorado Rockies - $5,000

The last time that I recommended Nolan Arenado, he made me look good with a HR. I feel that tonight will produce another Arenado HR as he faces Jake Peavy and the San Francisco Giants in Coors Field. Arenado is batting .455 over 11 ABs against Peavy. This includes a HR, two doubles and two singles. He is also sporting a .338 wOBA this season and should raise that number with his third HR of the year.

(SS) Francisco Lindor - Cleveland Indians - $3,200

Asides from Carlos Correa, Francisco Lindor is my favorite young SS in the MLB. He is also one of my favorite options tonight as he gets to face LHP Drew Smyly. Lindor is a switch hitter that hits significantly better from the right side of the plate. Additionally, Smyly's problem pitch is his changeup and Lindor has hit that pitch very well so far. He should have a productive night with at least one XBH, an RBI and a run scored.

(OF) Billy Hamilton - Cincinnati Reds - $2,700

Due to paying up at some positions, the OFs in this lineup will all be value plays with solid upside. The first of those value picks is Billy Hamilton. We all know about Hamilton's potential to steal multiple bases and he will be batting lead-off tonight against John Lackey. Hamilton is batting .333 over 18 ABs against Lackey with five singles and a double. This should lead to a 1-for-4 night for Hamilton with at least one SB and a run scored.

The second of the value OFs for tonight will be a player who I rarely use, Aaron Hicks. He will be batting second in the order as the New York Yankees take on J.A. Happ and the Toronto Blue Jays. Hicks is 4-for-6 against Happ with two HRs and two singles. He hasn't played much this year, but I feel he will take advantage of his opportunity with an RBI and run scored. There's even a small chance that he'll hit a HR.

(OF) Jeremy Hazelbaker - St. Louis Cardinals - $2,300

Jeremy Hazelbaker is one of the hottest hitters to start the season and his .611 wOBA is the proof. He also has an insane ISO of .526 and will take his swings against Chase Anderson tonight. Anderson has struggled more against LHBs so far in his career. Additionally, he has struggled the most with his four-seam fastball and that's a pitch that Hazelbaker has hit well. Call me crazy, but I feel that he will hit a HR and drive in at least two runs.
