Could Detroit’s Streak Finally End? Datsyuk Out At Least Two Weeks
Could this be what the Western Conference teams need to get past Detroit on their home ice at the Joe Louis Arena and break their 23-home-game winning streak?
The Red Wings announced earlier today that elite forward Pavel Datsyuk stayed in Detroit today and underwent arthroscopic knee surgery while the rest of the team traveled to Chicago for tonight’s game against the Blackhawks. The team will be without Datsyuk at least two weeks meaning that it could (and most likely will) be longer, but they felt it was better to have this out of the way now so he could be good before the playoff run begins. According to Detroit’s official webpage:
“Everything is real good. He had a fragment in his knee, an old thing we wanted to clear up prior to playoff time,” Babcock told MLive.com. “This way we have an opportunity to get him going 100 percent before playoff time.”
Two other noteworthy items today for Detroit:
- Goaltender Ty Conklin cleared waivers today, so he will be reporting to the Red Wing’s AHL affiliate (there go my hopes for Pittsburgh picking him up); and
- they re-acquired defenseman, Kyle Quincey who was originally drafted by the Red Wings back in 2003, in a multi-team / player trade earlier this afternoon; in the first half of the trade, the Colorado Avalanche sent Quincey to Tampa Bay for forward Steve Downey then Tampa Bay gave him up to Detroit in exchange for a 2012 first-round pick and Sebastien Piche
