It looks like the NHL is on the cutting edge of tolerance in sport. In this new commercial, which features numerous players in the NHL, they stress that if you can skate and shoot, you can play. This commercial is designed to support the effort of LGBT athletes to play professional.
Pro sports have long been a site of hyper-masculinity. By sending this message, the NHL is stressing that players shouldn’t get discouraged by their background. If you have talent on the ice, someone will allow you to play.
