NHL Playoffs 2012: Last Night in the East (April 24)
New Jersey Devils 3 vs. Florida Panthers 2 Overtime (Series Tied 3-3)
This game was pretty disciplined between both teams (hardly any penalties). And the New Jersey Devils weren’t ready to end their run in the NHL Playoffs 2012 by giving up a win to the Florida Panthers. The Devils win takes the series to a deciding Game 7 (the third one to be played - all of which were with the Eastern Conference matchups).
Although the shots on goal were absurdly uneven with the Devils having a total of 42 and the Panthers having a total of 16 for the game (with those totals, you would’ve thought New Jersey would’ve had a higher score).
The first period was a little slow with only one goal scored towards the end of the period at 16:37 by New Jersey’s Steve Bernier.
The second period saw the most action with three pucks finding the back of the net. First, a goal scored by Ilya Kovalchuk with a man-advantage then Florida answering with two goals from Kris Versteeg and Sean Bergenheim to tie it at 2.
The third period was pretty unproductive with neither team scoring a goal to force them into playing an extra period. At 5:39, Travis Zajac scored a goal with a snap shot to win the game for the Devils and keep their playoff hopes alive and crushing the Panthers hopes of ending the series at 6.
