The Golden State Warriors on Saturday night lost their fifth consecutive game. The team’s record now stands at 2-6 and the schedule isn’t going to get any easier for the Warriors. As the next two opponents will be the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic, which makes a seven game losing streak a very good possibility.

So far the Warriors have faced a variety of challenges. Stephen Curry sprained his right ankle in the short preseason against the Sacramento Kings and has already re-injured the ankle a number of times this season and is currently out for an undetermined length of time, David Lee has missed a game due to illness and hasn’t provided much spark on the offensive end of the floor this season, Andris Biedrins missed a game with an ankle and toe injury and didn’t play on Saturday, Dorell Wright has not been the same player as last season, Klay Thompson hasn’t found his shooting stroke yet and Ekpe Udoh continues to be inconsistent when he receives the ball in the post.

Not helping the Warriors situation has been the trade rumors involving Monta Ellis or Curry to bring in a superstar. The first example of that came when Chris Paul was on the trading block and now more recently with Dwight Howard, although the injury to Curry has pretty much ended those talks as the Warriors should not even consider trading Ellis especially if that player is going to be a one-year rental.

Yet, even with the injuries, inconsistent play and trade talks the Warriors for the most part have been competitive and had two or three games that the team should have won. It was just a matter of the team being able to execute on the offensive end of the floor.

With a likely seven game losing streak heading into Charlotte next Saturday. The Warriors have an excellent opportunity to make up for the losses as the team has six winnable games after their two toughest match-ups of the season. This includes games against Charlotte, Detroit, Cleveland, New Jersey, Indiana and Memphis.

Even better news for the Warriors is that Curry is expected to be back to take on Charlotte and will inject new life into the Warriors struggling offense, which currently ranks 25th in scoring at 89.9 points per game.

The losing streak has provided first year head coach Mark Jackson and the Warriors their first real test of the season. Yet, with Curry coming back the Warriors should be able to bounce back and at the end of January end up with a record of either 9-10 or 8-11 and the early season adversity will only make the Warriors a better team as the season progresses.
