Deconstructing Tiger Woods’ Latest Blog Post

Brad Barr-USA Today

Satire Alert!!

So, Tiger Woods went ahead and wrote a one-page blog post on his website, www.TigerWoods.com, the other day. When I read it I saw a lot of good things, and I like the fact that he’s writing his feelings down on “paper” for all the world to see. Some of the things in the post – well — let me just go through it piece-by-piece and feel free to comment if you agree.

“Hello, from Florida, where I’m just kind of relaxing and winding down.”

Dude, it’s hot in Florida right now; in fact, it’s so hot that I’m sure by “relaxing” you mean “not playing golf whatsoever because it’s so darn hot!”

“Although I didn’t play as well as I wanted to, I hit more solid shots.”

You didn’t play as well as I wanted you to either Woods, or the rest of America, or the PGA Tour for that matter. It must be hard hoisting the global golf community on your back and not succeeding anymore. I believe that you will succeed; just buy a Ford Edge or something, it worked for Derek Jeter.

“I just need more reps.”

Im still not convinced on your swing changes. Is it some sort of try to play a fade while swinging more from the inside and yet somehow manage to incorporate stack-and-tilt into the mix? Go back to Butch! Am I alone?

“I’m used to seeing the ball curve a lot, but now I’m hitting the ball much straighter.”

Ben Hogan once said that if his ball went straight, something went wrong in the swing.

“I couldn’t cut the ball.”

Not even going to go there.

“I’ll keep working on my game, but my coach, Sean Foley, is pretty busy at the moment.”

Then get a new one!

“I haven’t decided on a new caddie yet, but am definitely thinking about it a lot.”

Chris DiMarco isn’t winning any more. Get him on the bag, I hear he lives down the street from you!

“What am I looking for? Two things: A person with a lot of experience and a person I’ll have fun with.”

Darn, there goes my prediction.

“You might have noticed I wore new shoes.”

Here comes the shameless plug. So much for those rumors of money trouble. Did I mention that it goes on for three paragraphs in his blog post? Get back to the golf!

“On Aug. 31, I’ll play in the Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge in Verona, N.Y.”

Yay, Woods will be on the course! Can’t deny it, that’s what we all want to see; too bad it’s not a big tournament. Then, he followed that statement with this:

“After that, I have trips to Asia and Australia”

Nooooooooo. Again, so much for those money trouble rumors.

“I might add another PGA Tour event to my schedule.”

Don’t lie.

PS, I wish the best for Tiger, and I hope that he wins. Real soon.

It bothers me that he’s on the team and only committed to Fry’s Open and not also the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic Monday Oct 17 – Sunday Oct 23, 2011 which is nicely before the Presidents Cup in November and might actually prepare him. One tournament is NOT ENOUGH.
