We all the saying: “Go ahead and play through.”

Well, apparently not all of us know it.

According to this report, a Springtown, Texas man is in danger of losing his right leg after being stabbed by another man’s club shaft during an argument at the Eagle Mountain Lake course outside of Fort Worth.

Clay Carpenter, 48, suffered a punctured femoral artery and substantial blood loss after being stabbed by another man who was upset that Carpenter’s threesome chose to play through his foresome without permission. Tarrant County Sherrif’s Department spokesperson Terry Grisham noted that an active investigation is in progress regarding Carpenter’s injuries.

The fight evidently escalated when Carpenter’s threesome attempted to play through, angering the foursome ahead, causing words to be exchanged. Carpenter and the yet-to-be-named combatant began to fight, at which point Carpenter was stabbed with the broken club shaft as the fight continued.

The amount of blood which Carpenter lost both at the scene and while in transport to the hospital, has he and his family worried that he may have to have his right leg amputated as a worst case scenario, or at a minimum suffer substantial function loss.

This is just a crazy story. The general lack of patience which we as people tend to exhibit due to our instant-gratification culture which is continuing to breed an air of self-importance is manifested in these types of situations. This was a mid-week, mid-afternoon round of golf that somehow devolved into a bloody fight scene.

Cooler heads should always prevail in these situations– alcohol-fueled or not– but unfortunately, they don’t always, and lives are changed as a result.
