The FedEx St. Jude Classic in sunny Memphis, TN is this week’s stop on the PGA Tour. Defending champion Harrison Frazar is looking to retain his title as well as take home his share of the purse and the 500 FedEx Cup points that are on the line this week. The course this week, TPC Southwind is one of the few TPC venues in the country that are private, which makes it exponentially more difficult for the average golfer to get out and experience this awesome course.
The field for the FedEx St. Jude Classic is about what you would expect it to look like the week before the U.S. Open, with the majority of the world’s elite taking off to get themselves prepared for the Olympic Club in San Francisco next week. Rory McIlory is the lone player in the top 15 in the world playing this week. There are also 8 of the world’s top 50 that will be teeing it up in Tennessee.
Speaking of McIlroy; he desperately needs to put together a few good rounds of golf this week. The youngster who everyone thought was going to take the world of golf by storm like nothing we’ve seen since Tiger Woods has missed his last 3 consecutive cuts. Rory needs to string together some quality rounds not just to ensure that his game is in the right place, but also to make sure his head is on straight heading into a very difficult Olympic Club course for the U.S. Open.
