The 2nd leg of the PGA Tour Fall Series gets underway today with the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, CA. The par 71 course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr in 1999 and measures in at 7,368 yards. Bryce Molder will be looking to defend his championship this week, in a field chock full of golfers looking to secure their 2013 tour exemptions.
Some of the more notable names taking part in this week’s tour stop at British Open champion Ernie Els, Ben Curtis (who won the Valero Texas Open in 2012), as well as 7 other golfers that have won a major championship in their career: Trevor Immelman, Mike Weir, Justin Leonard, Davis Love III, Angel Cabrera, John Daly and Vijay Singh.
Some of the people I have mentioned are participating this week simply to earn some extra cash or keep their games sharp. Others, however, have a lot more on the line. They are looking to get into the top 125 on the official money list, so as to ensure their full 2013 PGA Tour card. Anyone outside of the top 125 must rely on exemptions or qualification in order to participate in the majority of the tournaments on the tour.
After his impressive last week at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open, Jonas Blixt seems to be getting a great deal of attention as a contender this week. Nicolas Colsaerts, however, seems to be the odds-on favorite to win, followed closely by Bud Cauley, Els and Singh.
