Ian Poulter is a golfer known for his scrambling ability and his acumen around the greens. Before he joined the European team for the Ryder Cup, however, he took that to a whole new level. Poulter joined world famous golf trick shot artist Geoff Swain for a trick shot demonstration. And, thankfully for all of us, the absolutely ridiculous results were captured on video and posted on YouTube.
Swain is a world golf trick shot champion who travels and puts his mind boggling skills on display for the world to see. Personally, as a golfer struggling to break 85, it’s a little disconcerting to see what Swain can do with a golf club and ball, considering the difficulty I frequently have simply hitting the ball straight.
Poulter, on the other hand, is in the upper echelon of professional golfers in the world. He’s currently ranked 27th in the official world golf rankings and is a constant threat to win any tournament in which he is a participant.
The interesting thing is that I would have thought that, despite his obvious ability, it would be difficult for Poults to pull off some of these shots, considering they are very different from what he normally practices. I couldn’t have been more wrong. While there were some bloopers, Poulter succeeded at all of the tasks presented to him. The one thing we can’t know for sure, however, is how many takes it actually required for Poulter to successfully complete each of the shots.
I, for one, would love to be present for a presentation given by Swain. Heck, maybe he could teach me a thing or two about playing out of some the ridiculous lies I get myself into.
