Rory Mcilroy To Feature A New Charity On His Golf Bag At WGC Event
If it feels like we haven’t seen Rory Mcilroy in a while, it’s because we haven’t. The last time Mcilroy played golf was at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Rory was unable to make the cut, but as a part of his “Six Bags Project” for the Rory Foundation, Mcilroy was able to raise money for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. As part of the Six Bags Project, Mcilroy will have the name of a charity featured on his golf bag and then auction that bag after the tournament, donating all proceeds to the charity chosen for each tournament.
When Mcilroy returns at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship his golf bag will feature the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson. The tournament is being held at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona, which means Mcilroy will be raising money for a local charity.
The mission of the Boys and Girls club of Tucson is to provide building centered programs, professional staff, and a safe environment to assist youth in developing self-esteem, values and skills. The club has been open in the Tucson area since 1957 and helps to serve over 8,000 youths at six clubhouses in the area.
While the tournament is in progress, fans can bid on the bag at through the foundation website, www.roryfoundation.com.
As each tournament gets closer, we will update the next charity that will be featured on Rory’s bag. The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship won’t just be exciting for golf fans; it will be a great week to be a part of the Boys and Girls Club of Tucson.
