Five Bold Predictions for The Masters

Five Bold Predictions for The Masters

This week is the first major of the 2013 PGA golf season, and it is the most prestigious golf tournament in the United States — the one known only as the Masters. The best of the best golfers in the world will converge and compete here over the weekend. If a golfer wants to win at this elite tournament, they will need nerves of steel and veins of ice water. This tournament isn’t just a great golf tournament to watch on television every year, but it also means that spring is here. It is amazing how many little changes the workers at Augusta National Golf Club make annually to keep it challenging to all the golfers.

There will be some surprises in 2013 just as there are every year at this tournament. A big-name golfer will miss the cut; an amateur might make a run at the green jacket. The weather looks mostly good for the weekend, so fans of golf should be in a real treat. However, if the greens are dry, they will be like parking lots so shot selection will be vital.

There is so much excitement at the Masters from holes 15 and 16, better known as “Amen Corner” which usually makes or breaks a golfers’ round or even tournament in some instances. If a golfer can get through Amen Corner at even par or better for the four rounds, they are usually near or at the top of the leaderboard. So without further ado, here are five bold predictions for this week.

5. Rickie Fowler Will Wear the Loudest Clothes in the Field

Rickie Fowler is a younger golfer that loves to wear bright colors that was clearly modeled after John Daly and his Loud Mouth Gear. Rickie might not win the Masters, however he will be remembered for sure with his choice of clothing.

4. A Cinderella Will Emerge on Moving Day

In a feel good story, a virtual unknown will have a tremendous Saturday and will be in contention for the green jacket, kind of like Angel Cabrera did in 2009. When this happens, it will explain why Saturday is called "Moving Day".

3. Rory McIlroy Will Finish The Masters No Matter What

This one is a little bit tongue-in-cheek after Rory McIlroy withdrew from The Honda Classic five weeks ago. Either way, this is a major with too much money and prestige is on the line.

2. Phil Mickelson Will Have a Fourth-Round Melt Down

This one isn't really that bold of a prediction since it has happened far too often to Phil Mickelson, but history will repeat itself for "Lefty". If he plays smart, he should avoid this; but then again, who will be truly surprised if he puts a ball in a corporate tent again?

1. Tiger Woods Will Win The 2013 Masters

Tiger Woods has reclaimed the No. 1 golfer in the world status again, and it's been said a happy Tiger, is a deadly tiger. Woods has already won three times on this early 2013 golf season and winning The Masters for a fifth time sure would be icing on the cake.
