Look out, Travelers Championship. Here comes Bubba Watson. After an opening round 63, Watson carded a three under par 67 in the second round to move to 10 under par and take a two shot lead over Patrick Reed and Padraig Harrington heading into the weekend. He was able advantage of the fact that many of the leaders struggled in the second round.
Charley Hoffman fired a three over par 73 in the second round while Hunter Mahan carded a one over par 71. Both golfers are certainly still in contention heading into the weekend but did not do themselves any favors in round two. Justin Rose keeps plodding along, not doing anything spectacular but also not playing himself out of the tournament. He carded a 68 in the second round to move to five under par.
Clearly, Watson has an affinity towards Augusta National, seeing as how it was the site of his Masters victory. Apparently, he is quite fond of TPC River Highlands, as well. “I love this place. I always play well here,” Watson said. He is looking to win for the second time at this event, as he took home the title in 2010. You can’t blame a guy for liking a course at which he has won in the past. “The tee shots set up well for me. I like the way they look,” Watson said. “There’s about two tee shots on the whole course that are really tough for me. Other than that, the course sets up well for me.”
Yeah, that’s what I think whenever I play a golf course too. There are usually only a few shots that don’t set up well for me. Watson has had a great deal of success at this event in the past and is looking for his victory since last year’s Masters. I was surprised that the leaders couldn’t capitalize on their excellent first round scores and moved back towards the pack a bit.
This one is setting up for yet another exciting weekend finish with plenty of movement on the leaderboard.
