The Masters Tournament is just two weeks away, which means all the golfers gunning of the title at the first major tournament of the young 2014 golf season are trying to fine tune their game in the meantime. The 2014 Valero Texas Open offers the last of two opportunities to do that and with most of the sports world’s attention on the 2014 NCAA Tournament this weekend, let’s check out the top five golfers to watch in San Antonio.

Don’t look now, but last week’s winner at the Arnold Palmer Invitational has five top-10 finishes in 11 starts this season. That first career tour win makes him eligible for major tournaments, so watch out as he tries to pick up steam heading into the Masters in two weeks.

4. Phil Mickelson

Without a top-10 finish in seven starts this season (including twice missing the cut), Phil Mickelson needs something positive out of this weekend’s tournament. The longer he goes without at least contending, the more of a distant memory that 2013 British Open win becomes.

Don’t think the Texas native knows what a win this weekend would do for him. As Palmer tries to qualify for the Masters, he’ll be trying to take advantage of the course in his home state and build off his three recent top-10 finishes.

Coming out strong early in 2014 is Reed, who has two wins to go along with four other top-20 finishes. The million he’s already earned will undoubtedly serve as motivation as he tries to add to his trophy case and become a favorite at Augusta.

Another Texas native, Spieth has three top-10 finishes this season and would like nothing more than to win this tournament in his home state to give him even more momentum before the Masters.
