Predictions for Day 2 of the 2014 Masters

Life without Tiger Woods in the 2014 Masters is still a little tough to swallow, but it was a great first day regardless. As expected, Adam Scott shot in the reds (under par) and he has set himself up nicely for his second round. However, I am sure not a whole lot of people expected Bill Haas to be the leader (-4).

Well, there are still three rounds to play and a lot can happen. Let’s take a look at 10 predictions for Day 2 of the Masters.

If it wasn’t for one bad hole, Adam Scott would be the leader. He took a double bogey on No. 12. He did have five birdies on the day, though. Expect Scott to get off to a hot start and put himself in the lead right off the bat.

Rory McIlroy Will Have the Lead After Day 2

Rory McIlroy didn’t play his best round ever, but he still managed to shoot 1-under par. Expect big things out of the most talented golfer in the world on Day 2. Expect him to have the lead when the day is over.

Sergio Garcia Will Get Back on Track

Sergio Garcia could have put up a low score on Thursday. If he didn’t have so many bogeys. Six to be exact. Still, he made four birdies and people can expect Garcia to have more of those than bogeys in round two.

Phil Mickelson Will Be Near the Cut Line

Phil Mickelson will probably be in contention at some point, but I am not expecting that to happen until the weekend. He had two very bad holes today. We will get to that more later.

At plus-4, Lefty has some work to do and he could be near the cut line the entire day.

Zach Johnson Will Miss the Cut

Hopefully Zach Johnson proves me wrong, but I am predicting him to miss the cut. He is currently tied in 80th place, so you could say he had a bad day (+6).

Fred Couples Will be in Contention

Fred Couples still has it. I don’t know how the 54-year-old does it, but he seems to always be in contention at the Masters, or at least finishes relatively near the top of the leaderboard. He’s currently tied in 12th place.

Rickie Fowler Won’t Disappear

Rickie Fowler shot 71 today. It would be great to see him taking home the green jacket on Sunday, but who knows if that will happen. Regardless, he will not disappear this weekend.

Back to Phil Mickelson. He had not one, but two sevens today. Ouch. Two holes killed his first round. Well, hopefully he got that out of his system.

Expect some random player to emerge during the second round. I am not sure who it will be, but it seems like someone, who is not expected to do anything, always emerges early at the Masters.

Lee Westwood Will Have a Better Day

Lee Westwood shot 1-over in his first round. Not bad, but he can definitely do way better. How great would it be if Westwood was in contention this weekend? Well, expect him to have a better day, which could result in him being near the top 10.
