While McIlroy hasn't won on the PGA Tour in over a year and a half, the 25-year-old from Northern Ireland is still one of the best players on the planet. He's one of the most popular players on tour and has shown the ability to pull away from the field at the biggest tournaments in the world.

Here are the five reasons why Rory McIlroy will win at TPC Sawgrass this week.

McIlroy has posted five top-10s in seven PGA Tour events this season and hasn't finished outside the top 25. He lost in a playoff at the Honda Classic, and posted Sunday rounds in the 60's to finish in the top 10 at The Masters and The Shell Houston Open. He's shown he can go low, and it's only a matter of time until he puts it all together for four rounds.

McIlroy ranks fifth on tour in Driving Distance, averaging over 306 yards off the tee. Being able to bomb it off the tee will allow him to hit short irons into the longer par fours. This is part of the reason why he's ranked seventh on tour in par four scoring average.

Recent winners of The Players include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott. The biggest stars in the game all have a Players Championship on their resume. With his monumental wins at the U.S. Open and PGA Championship the past few years, it's his turn to win at TPC Sawgrass and re-establish himself as one of the best in the game.

McIlroy leads the tour in Round 1 Scoring Average at 68.00. He opened with a 65 at the HSBC Champions, a 63 at the Honda Classic and a 69 last week at the Wells Fargo Championship. If he can get off to a fast start this week and then keep that momentum going, he has the ability to pull away from the field.

McIlory ranks fourth on the tour in overall scoring average at 69.622. Two of the players ahead of him on this list, Matt Kuchar and Sergio Garcia, have won this event in the past six years. It's McIlroy's turn to etch his name on the Players Championship trophy.
