Tom Watson does not have an easy decision to make when it comes to Tiger Woods and the 2014 Ryder Cup team. He really could go either way with his decision, but let’s take a look at five reasons why Tiger should make the team.

Tiger Woods has won 14 majors and 79 PGA tournaments. By my count, that puts Tiger No. 2 overall in both categories. He is clearly a proven winner and the American team could use people like that.

4. Tiger Woods Effect

The Tiger Woods Effect has died down a bit over the years, but it is still there. Playing alongside him has always been nerve-racking for opposing players, and that still holds true. No other player in the world, not even Rory McIlroy, quite has that effect. At least not yet.

3. Best Player to Ever Play the Game

Tiger Woods has not won a major in six long years. Still, he is the best player to ever play the game. Say what you want about that long drought, but Woods still won five times last year. He also was the Player of the Year.

2. Ryder Cup Record

Tiger’s Ryder Cup Record: 13-14-2
Singles Record: 4-1-1

Now, those numbers shouldn’t blow anyone away, especially since Woods played on the team when he was in his prime, but they do show that Tiger has won many times and has a lot of EXPERIENCE. Two key things.

1. His Potential

Woods is clearly not on top of his game and his back is still in question, but his potential is higher than anyone else's on the American team. If he can somehow get it going or get on some sort of streak, the European side would be in trouble.
