Phil Mickelson to Miss US Open to Attend Daughter's Graduation

By Anthony Blake

It’s really kind of funny how the world works sometimes.

Phil Mickelson nearly had to leave the US Open early 18 years ago when his daughter, Amanda, was born, but he never got the call from his wife and ultimately lost in an epic duel with the late Payne Stewart.

Now that same daughter is all grown up and she’s making daddy miss the open for real this time.

This is a stand-up move from a dad perspective, putting your child’s accomplishment ahead of your own personal and professional desires.

But at the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills, Mickelson will turn 48 years of age on the day he plays his third round – if he makes the cut.

Time isn’t on lefty’s side for completing that career grand slam, but perhaps he’s at peace with that fact.
