NFL Lockout Ends-Packers to Open Camp July 30th, President Mark Murphy Expects ‘Practice-like setting’
The Green Bay Packers have announced on the team’s website that they will open training camp on July 30th, one day after players are expected to report.
The announcement comes hours after the NFL players approved the new collective bargaining agreement which will ensure football for the next decade.
More good news for Packers fans is that the Lambeau Field tradition of Family Night will continue this season, this year the event is scheduled for August 6th. For those of you in the Wisconsin area, I envy you, because apart from an attending an actual Packers game at Lambeau Field, Family Night is one event that I sincerely want to attend one day.
President and CEO of the Packers, Mark Murphy, shed some light on some details about training camp that are not immediately considered by fans. Murphy says “With the unique offseason, the format for training camp and in the interest of player safety, the football portion of the evening will be more of a practice-like setting, but will still have plenty of action and full-team drills.”
After four long months of waiting in eager anticipation and anxiety, it seems it was all for naught as we will still have NFL football in 2011. Now it seems we will trade the questions of the last four months for new and challenging questions that surround a shorter off-season. As defending champions the Packers have a unique position, but one that all Packer fans enjoy having.
The quest for the 5th Lombardi trophy begins July 30th.
