After learning of a season ending injury to starting safety Nick Collins just a month ago, it looked as if the Green Bay Packers would be without fellow starter Morgan Burnett this Sunday at home against the St. Louis Rams.
According to a report following Thursday’s practice session, Burnett has a broken hand, and looked likely to miss this weekend’s game. The news originally came as a worry to the Packers, as the secondary is still suffering with injuries, but after sitting out Friday’s practice Burnett has been listed as probable by the team.
In a perfect world, Burnett will sit through the pain on Sunday and play a full four quarters. If the opposite happens though, it is likely rookie cornerback M.D. Jennings will step in as his replacement, leaving the Packers safety positions vulnerable to the Rams passing attack.
The other option is of course moving Charles Woodson from cornerback, but that may be a long term plan if Burnett is set to miss some playing time.
Packer fans will also be happy to know that Bryan Bulaga has also been listed as probable by the coaching staff for the time being. Further evaluation will take place on Saturday, but Mike McCarthy told NFL.com that Bulaga “looked to be moving well” after missing the past two games with a knee injury.
