The Green Bay Packers defense just can’t catch a break this week.

Nearly three full days after cornerback Sam Shields was ruled out of this Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers learned of another injury on Wednesday, and this time, it’s Frank Zombo.

According to head coach Mike McCarthy, Zombo hyper-extended his knee in practice this week and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game. It’s a shame because Zombo gelled so well with fellow linebacker A.J. Hawk against the Rams, and his recovery from a broken shoulder blade had already seen him miss enough time.

The good news is though; the injury doesn’t seem to be quite so serious. Zombo played through the pain last week, and after this Sunday’s trip to Minnesota, the Packers have a bye to nurse their lengthy injury list.

There is also good news coming on the Charles Woodson front, as his medical exam looks “positive” according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.  Injured tackle Chad Clifton is also making steps toward a comeback, but it’s unlikely he returns until after the bye.
