After today’s victory, the Houston Texans moved to 8-3 on the season.  However, starting quarterback Matt Leinart left the game with a shoulder injury.  The Texans are fearful that he may have broke his collarbone, which would end his season.  T.J Yates took over the quarterback job and the only other quarterback on the roster is recently signed Kellen Clemens.  If Houston is serious about making a playoff run, why not give Brett Favre a call?

At this rate, I’m going to keep posting articles until someone brings in the ol Gunslinger.  Sure he’s old and probably washed up, but I would think Favre provides a higher ceiling than Yates.  Houston has one of the best running games in the league and with star wideout Andre Johnson back to full health, Favre wouldn’t need to carry the load.  He would simply have to rely on his play-action skills and the deep ball to Johnson.

Favre would give Houston the potential to make a deep playoff run.  He might still have some of his old magic left.  I certainly would rather have a semi-retired Favre at quarterback over Yates and Clemens.   Those two do not provide the spark that could power a team to a victory.  Favre can do just that.

The chances of this happening are probably slim.  However, I think it’d be good for football.  The Texans would instantly become one of the most talked about teams in the league.  Many are sick of Favre, but you must admit that having him around does provide some quality entertainment.

Stop it please. The answer is NO!

I’m a Texans fan and I’m all for it. Yates will be good, someday. It is a lot to ask of a Rookie to learn an NFL-level playbook and adjust to the speed and intensity of the game when saddled with Playoff run expectations. Gabbert, Tebow, Bradford, et al., they are only supposed to learn. Making the playoffs is not as much of a concern. In the Texans situation, it’s win and win NOW. Favre has been asked to carry a team (and I admit, I think he loves that spotlight)in the past, but the Texans have an outstanding TEAM that could truly carry him when needed. I think the move alone, despite many critics, would electrify the Houston fan base and send a signal that they want to win. Playing Yates would be an investment in the future, but not the right move at this point in a very successful season. Were they 2-8, absolutely, save the $$ and play Yates every snap.

Garcia will get a good look, and I actually be he has a better chance of ending up in H-town (good bootleg QB). On the other hand, this is not as exciting of a proposition. As mentioned before, Favre has a high ceiling, and he only has to take 1/2 a season’s worth of hits. however, I’m not sure Kubiak could take Favre’s ego.

The one thing that is different between this and past season’s dramatics with Favre is that HE isn’t the one driving the boat and playing the PR “will I play or will I retire?” game. It’s quick and simple. He either suits up and plays, or he doesn’t. No drama.

What do you think Yates has been doing for the past four months? He’s got the playbook down….just producing is the question

This may be stretching it but I’d love to see Jason Campbell in a Texans uniform down the road at some point this season. His collarbone should be fully healed in about two weeks and he’s a much better option than Favre or any other washed up veteran QB like McNabb, Delhomme and even Culpepper whose names have been thrown around in the mix. Hue Jackson got his guy in Carson Palmer so there’s no need for the Raiders to keep Campbell around. He’ll eventually get released; let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Haters will be haters – no matter what. Let us be honest about one thing here: whether or not Brett Favre suits up for the Texans [and I think it would be a perfect fit for him] he is one of the most exciting QBs to ever play in the NFL. He is a winner and until the last couple seasons, had shown a resiliency rarely seen in any modern football players, let alone a QB.

Houston has a rock-solid DEF and has all the pieces [except QB] on OFF to make a very strong playoff run. Favre ought to have his agent calling them!

And that is really the deciding factor here. Favre has had a lot of bad press the last couple years – if he has both a real desire to play & any interest in leaving fans a different a far better memory than the way things wrapped up last year. Then I suggest he should do something unexpected. He should personally make a call to Wade Phillips and have a one-on-one conversation. He could lay his cards on the table and make a case for where he feels his health is at, his conditioning and how he thinks he could contribute to the Houston Texans.

This could go a long way toward alleviating any concerns Wade might have about what the media attention & locker room impact a Brett signing could have on his club. This sort of approach, honest, open and & ego firmly checked at the door – could easily put Brett in a Texans uniform.

And let’s face it – we all love watching gunslingers, even the aging ones, walk out for one more showdown. C’mon back Brett, we miss ya..:)
