The Northwestern Wildcats got their first Big Ten victory of the season. The Indiana Hoosiers have to wait longer to get there’s, as they lost they fall to 9-8, 0-4 in the Big Ten, this season. They are currently on a five-game losing-streak.
The Hoosiers got a late run going, but it wasn’t enough in a 93-81 loss. Jeremiah Rivers helped pave the way for a quick 5-2 lead in the game, but after that, the Wildcats went on a run. The Hoosiers could never recover. John Shurna led the ‘Cats with 24 points.
“We played extremely immature in the first half,” said IU Coach Tom Crean. “Extremely immature. In the second half, we started to come back, and we played desperate, and we don’t understand that we have got to play that way in the first half. When we go with a blue-collar mindset, and it’s everything defending together, a lot of better things happen, not great things, but better things. Our discipline was not where it needed to be.”
The Hoosiers were down as many as 24 and were down by twelve at halftime, 40-28. Christian Watford had 17 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough. Neither was Victor Oladipo’s 13 points or Jordan Hulls’ twelve.
“We did not play disciplined at all, especially on the weak side,” Crean said. “We don’t practice that way. We guard this every day, in the sense of you can’t get so enamored with the personnel that you forget that the system is what beats you. Then we hung our heads.”
The Hoosiers have a tough game at home next, as they host Michigan. They need a win.
It’s time to stop this losing streak.
