Former NFL Cheerleader Suing Indianapolis Colts Over Firing; Claims Team Violated Her Civil Rights
According to WTHR in Indianapolis, a former NFL cheerleader has filed a lawsuit against the Indianapolis Colts after being fired last November. Malori Wampler claims her civil rights were violated when the organization discriminated against her for being a woman and Indonesian after coming across photos that the team believes were inappropriate.
Apparently, the team came across some photos of Wampler on the internet that they were unhappy about. The report indicates the that Wampler is wearing nothing but body paint in the photos at a party thrown by Playboy–which Wampler’s lawyer, Kim Jeselskis, believes is ironic for the Colts to be unhappy about considering the type of clothing worn by their cheerleaders in front of fans at Lucas Oil Stadium. Jeselskis also points out how the team’s swimsuit calendar was more revealing than the photos of Wampler in body paint.
Another reason why Jeselskis believes her client has a case is due to the fact that other members of the squad with different ethnic backgrounds are still with the team–despite some of them having questionable photos themselves.
“Pictures of a Caucasian cheerleader were found on a website of a photographer,” Jeselskis said in the report. “The cheerleader’s wearing black lace underwear, garter belts, bra. She was posed in a bed, there was one picture of her laying in bed with a man.”
“It looks as if the Caucasian cheerleader was treated better. The rule was not applied the same way.”
In an offeseason filled with few news stories while waiting for the lockout to end, this is the last thing the Colts want to deal with.
