A new life for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is already available. Ole Miss is where Peyton Manning’s younger brother, New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning played his college ball. The Ole Miss Rebels want Peyton Manning to be their next head football coach.
Ole Miss has already announced that current head coach Houston Nutt will be let go at the end of the season. Peyton and Eli Manning’s father, Archie Manning was recently named the co-chairman of the selection committee to replace Nutt.
Obviously, everybody that is even remotely related to the Ole Miss football program has asked Archie Manning about the possibility of Peyton Manning becoming the team’s next head coach.
“I’ve gotten about 20 or 25 e-mails from people in that regard,” Archie Manning said. “I passed that on to Peyton.”
Of course, everyone immediately wanted to know Peyton Manning’s response.
“Just tell them that I’m 0-10 as an assistant for Indianapolis,” Peyton Manning said.
Manning has missed the entire 2011 NFL season after three offseason neck surgeries and doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to play football again. Manning’s new contract with the Colts could be void if he does not return to practice soon, putting his football future in jeopardy.
That has led the requests by Ole Miss for his services as head football coach through Archie Manning. With Eli Manning having the best statistical season of his career and currently injury free, there’s no reason to believe his football days are even close to being over. Peyton Manning did not give any serious answer as to whether he’d consider the Ole Miss job if his playing days truly come to an end in a month or so.
