Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning Much Like Brett Favre and Green Bay Packers
Much like what happened to Brett Favre in 2008, the Indianapolis colts are moving forward without their franchise quarterback.
The NFL is a league of what have you done for me lately and lately Manning hasn’t done anything except stand on a sideline coaching his fellow quarterbacks.
In 2008 Brett Favre announced his retirement from the NFL. Since Favre was retired the Green Bay Packers needed moved on, so they did. A few months later Favre wanted to come back and play but the Packers moved on.
In Indianapolis, Manning has been injured and now reports say he has had 4 neck surgeries. Without it being said the Colts have moved on, with the first draft pick in Aprils draft. They will select Andrew Luck with that pick and Luck will be given the keys to drive the Indianapolis offense, with Manning looking on.
I know what you are thinking, Favre and Manning’s situation is totally different, but lets take a closer look.
The situation between Favre and Manning is a case of two players wanting to play and the front offices not wanting to continue with them as their leader. Whatever happened to the days of drafting a quarterback and letting him finish his career where they were drafted at? I understand that times have changed but its called loyalty and teams in this age need to realize that.
I understand that his neck injury will play a big part in his chances of coming back to the Colts, but I can see the Colts giving up on him before he can prove to the front office that he is ready.
