No noise from Jim Irsay after the report that a source close to the Indianapolis Colts said the team has decided to not to pick up its 3-year option for quarterback Peyton Manning, all but confirms the story is true.

Did Jim Irsay lose his cell phone? There hasn’t been one time this off-season when a faulty report came out that Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay did not respond to. He has been quick and creative with his tweets, but since the latest report about Manning, he has been silent which leads us all to believe it is true.

The silence is one thing, but there is more news on this situation that makes you really wonder why Irsay is staying so quiet. Jim Irsay told fans not even a week ago that “We will always communicate with Colt Fans about important issues through all 21st century means to be informative and insightful … Some n traditional media see twitter as a threat,it can instantly n directly inform fans what the real deal is,but both can exist n harmony. No one has heard anything that would even for a second resemble the topic of Manning becoming a free agent from Irsay.”

To add to the reports from a few days ago that Irsay has decided not to pick up his option leading to Manning becoming a free agent, here is a tweet that has been re-tweeted more than any news lately:

The Colts, if they wanted Peyton, could have exercised option on Manning at any time since February 7th. Crickets.

To add to this news, Archie Manning, the father of Peyton, said this on Friday: “It’s been great for 14 years. Jim’s been a wonderful owner.”

Okay, so the words have not been officially said Peyton has been let go but let’s read the writing on the wall. Indianapolis is starting over, and it’s only a matter of time before the Colts have a press conference and officially announce that they will not pick up Manning’s option.

Does this mean that Manning will play somewhere else?

Not necessarily; a few things could happen. Manning could shock the world and retire, which is highly unlikely, or Manning and the Colts could agree on a new deal after free agency begins.

Let’s be honest; Manning is a 4-time MVP, a future Hall of Famer, a quarterback that is a perfectionist and knows how to win. Manning will find work and, in fact, I would go ahead and say he has more than one offer from other NFL teams.

After receiving all this information, it is clear why Jim Irsay has not denied the rumor about Manning and the Colts not agreeing to a new deal and any time between now to March 8 there will be a press conference announcing just that.

  1. milt robare says:

if the colts and peyton could agree to it, i think the best senario would be that they agree to 14 million, 1/2 of the present monetary package. peyton would then play if he could, and while that decision plays put, could coach a.luck and prepare him for a better start in the nfl. that is the only win, win, win situation for irsay, peyton, and luck as i see it.
