This 6-foot-4 inch, 235 pound Quarterback out of Stanford, was more than impressive during his Pro Day Thursday afternoon.

After a day of all the hype at Baylor University with Robert Griffin III, I believe Andrew Luck showed why he should remain the number one overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.

The Stanford Cardinals welcomed viewers on ESPN U, the home of college sports on national television.

They opened up with basic height and weight measurements, then they got into bench pressing, running the 40-yard dash, and other events that also took place at the NFL Scouting Combine.

After the many seniors of the Stanford Cardinals had their small window to shine for NFL scouts, the projected number one overall pick, Andrew Luck took the field, and he did not disappoint.

Luck started with basic warm up drills, stretching, and loosening up of the arm.

Boy did he come out with a message, throwing over a 70-yard pass to his Stanford receiver to end all speculation about him not having the arm strength of an NFL Quarterback.  Former New York Giants Quarterback, Phil Simms said on the record that he is not sold on the College Prospect.

“I just don’t see the big time throws.  I don’t care what anybody says.  I’ve watched a lot of him.  He never takes it and rips it in there.”  Phil Simms told Adam Schein and Rich Gannon of SirusXM NFL Radio back in November of 2011.

Do I agree with the Superbowl winning Quarterback?  Absolutely not.

You also need to take into consideration that last year, Andrew Luck didn’t even have a reliable weapon at wide receiver to throw the football to.  His most targeted weapon was senior tight end, Coby Fleener, who is projected to go late in the 1st round or early second.  Even with the lack of team assets, Luck still finished the season with 3,517 passing yards and 37 touchdown passes.  During last college season, what I enjoyed most about watching Luck on TV was his ability to move on from an early interception in a battle against USC, and he ended up bringing back the Stanford Cardinals in an overtime thriller.  Luck has a clutch gene of an NFL Quarterback.  He’s cool, calm, and collective while the pressure is on, making all the necessary throws.

Andrew Luck finished his pro day completing 46 out of 50 throws, with 3 drops by the receivers.  Of course there is no defensive players trying to make plays on the ball, but regardless throwing the football that many times from different angles, positions, and for different amounts of yards, that overall total is very impressive.

Luck is projected to be drafted number one overall by the Indianapolis Colts, the successor of the all-time great, Peyton Manning.  Luck will be put into a rebuilding situation, with a new head coach, offensive coordinator, and general manager.  I loved the resigning of Colts wide receiver, Reggie Wayne, someone who will make Luck feel much more comfortable, and that much better.  He will be surrounded with a fairly new Indianapolis Colt team, that has begun a process for the future.

Andrew Luck is being considered a once in a lifetime type of player.  This will be the Colts, 2nd “once in a lifetime type of player”, in 15 years.  What most people don’t realize is, that this is something, very, very hard to do.  The Green Bay Packers, made a beautiful transition from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers, now the Colts could do the same exact thing.

I definitely see Andrew Luck being a future pro bowler, an MVP, and a Superbowl Champion.  Put together his skill set, with his intelligence, you have an NFL Quarterback who will be great for a very long time.
