The NFL has released the 2012 preseason schedule for each team in the league. Certain dates and times are still to be determined.

The Indianapolis Colts will step into the new post-Peyton Manning era this August with a home game against the St. Louis Rams. The Rams, much like the Colts are looking to bounce back from a dismal season. This game will be a match-up of the two teams with the worst records in the NFL last season. The Rams and the Colts had a combined four wins in 2011.

In the second week of the preseason, the new Colts will make their prime time television debut on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers on NBC’s Sunday night football. The Steelers will be on a mission, after an early exit in last year’s playoffs. The Colts’ new offensive coordinator, Bruce Arians, was the offensive coordinator for the Steelers last season.

The Colts travel to Washington in week three, in what could be one of the most anticipated games of the preseason. The Colts will face off against the Washington Redskins, in what could be the first-ever meeting between top NFL Draft picks, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. The Colts and the Redskins have the first two picks in this month’s draft, and Luck and Griffin could be the first two picks taken off the board. Even in a preseason game, these two rookie quarterbacks could see a lot of playing time.

The Colts finish up the preseason in a familiar way, by playing the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals made the playoffs last season, and are looking to improve with a young team and a second-year quarterback.

The Colts will have to use this preseason to build confidence and cohesion with this new team, quarterback, and coaches. Regardless of what the future hold for this franchise in 2012, it will be interesting to watch this team mature in their attempts to rebuild.
