Maurice Jones-Drew Only Jacksonville Jaguars Player Selected To Pro Bowl
The Jacksonville Jaguars are only sending one player to Hawaii this year.
The NFL announced the rosters for the annual Pro Bowl game on Tuesday evening and running back Maurice Jones-Drew was the only Jaguars player to make the initial roster.
This is the third consecutive Pro Bowl selection for Jones-Drew, who was not named the starter despite his lead in the NFL rushing yardage race. Jones-Drew is the fourth player in Jaguars franchise history to be named to at least three consecutive Pro Bowls. The others were Tony Boselli, Jimmy Smith and Marcus Stroud.
The Jaguars also had three additional players named as Pro Bowl alternates. Fullback Montell Owens was named as the first alternate for the special teamer, fullback Greg Jones was named as the second alternate at his position and kicker Josh Scobee was named as the third alternate.
This is the first season since 2002 that no blockers for the NFL’s leading rusher has been named as a starter or alternate for the Pro Bowl.
The biggest snub for the Jaguars may be on the defensive side of the ball, however.
Despite being the leagues fifth ranked defense, the Jaguars will not be represented on the defensive side of the ball for the AFC. Linebacker Daryl Smith has been playing at a Pro Bowl level for years in Jacksonville, but never gets any recognition due to the lack of glamorous stats 4-3 outside linebackers typically put up. Smith has to compete against 3-4 outside linebackers that usually put up massive sack totals.
