College Football Recruiting: Tyler Bruggman Headlines Potent 2013 Crew for Leach, Washington State
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE

For Washintgon State fans, the verbal commitment of Tyler Buggman is not news.  The Brophy Prep quarterback verbally commited to the Cougars back in June.  Other Pac-12 schools should take notice if they have not already.  Head Coach Mike Leach is building his own personal defensive coordinator’s nightmare in Pullman.  Consider that Leach turned Texas Tech into a national championship contender having to compete with the likes of Oklahoma and Texas in the same division.  Leach is on his way, making the same kind of noise in the Pac-12 North as he did in the Big 12 South.

Bruggman’s commitment to Leach and Washington State was a statement.  Rated as a four star recruit out of Phoenix Arizona, Bruggman has all the tools a big time program would want in their signal-caller.  One might consider Bruggman to be on the smaller side standing at 6’1″ 190 pounds.  Watch his film, and size quickly becomes an afterthought.  Pass after pass is put right on the money as the Elite 11 invitee puts on a clinic with footwork and ball placement.  A lighting quick release with accuracy is going to translate into a lot of touchdowns at Washington State.

Why Bruggman’s story is so exciting for Cougar fans everywhere, is his decision to play 953 miles from his hometown.  The decision to suit up for Leach instead of, Arizona State, displays the power of the Leach offensive mind.  Todd Graham, in his first year head as head coach for the Sun Devils, was outdueled by the pirate loving first year coach in Pullman.  The new offensive system being employed by Graham in Tempe is a fast-paced, pass heavy offense, which was still not enough to keep Bruggman in the area.

In the 2013 class, Bruggman is not the only weapon that Leach has gained a verbal from.  Running back Olito Thompson from Concord California is a three star rated prospect by Rivals.  ESPN gives four stars to Gerard Wicks of Long Beach, also a running back.  Mutliple threat ahtlete DMarcus Ayers of Lancaster Texas has experience as both a quarterback and receiver in high school.  Athlete River Cracraft could be an excellent run-after-the-catch addition to Leach’s air raid.

Tight End Cole Madison is from the state of Washington is a solid run blocker who can also threaten in the passing game.  It will be interesting to see how Leach uses the 6’6″ 260 pound Burien product.

The Cougars currently have 12 verbal commitements for 2013 placing them in the middle of the pack for Pac-12 programs.  Leach’s arrival should is a calling card to offensive talent around the country especially quarterbacks and receivers.  If Leach proved anything in Lubbock, it was that he didn’t need the same amount of talent that Texas and Oklahoma had, to give them fits.  Bruggman is too good to not put up big time numbers under Leach’s system.

After four seasons that saw the Cougars manage nine wins combined, there is nowhere to go but up. Leach seems to be getting his guys.  While Washington State will likely gain an average rating within the Pac-12 recruting process under Leach, there should be an above average amount of wins.

Swing your sword Cougar fans, the Pirate has docked his ship and is ready for his first season to set sail.
