Wisconsin Prep Football Stars Who Verbally Committed to Big Ten
Richard Mackson-US PRESSWIRE

High school football season is two weeks old in Wisconsin, and I thought I would give you fans a glimpse of some of the players who have made a verbal commitment. We’re going to first look at the Big Ten commitments from the badger state and then later on I will post non-Big Ten verbal commitments.

MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS

Dylan Chmura TE Waukesha West- Chmura is one of the top tight ends in Wisconsin in my eyes and will be a great asset for the Spartans offense next fall. He’s strong and athletic and as long as he stays healthy (Chmura missed his junior season due to torn ACL), he will be a tight end to be reckoned with. His dad was a pretty good tight end himself back in the day.

R.J. Shelton RB Beaver Dam- Shelton is a speedy running back that I would like to see add some muscle before next fall to be an even more dangerous back. Michigan State fans will like his quickness and once he gets to that second level of defenders, he will either make you miss or outrun you. Shelton found the end zone 34 times last season and through two games this year, he has scored seven total touchdowns.

NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS

A.J. Natter DE Milton- One of many talented defensive ends in Wisconsin, Natter will look to make an impact in Lincoln, NE. The only senior to choose Nebraska so far, Natter surprised some by committing to the Cornhuskers. I like his build, athletic ability and the fact that his motor keeps going.

MINNESOTA GOLDEN GOPHERS

Owen Salzwedel DE Beaver Dam- Salzwedel is a very underrated player in my opinion and gets overlooked because of how much talent the defensive ends have in this class. He’s got that lethal combination of speed and strength and can get off the block very well. I think Minnesota will be very pleased and Salzwedel could give opposing Big Ten teams fits.

WISCONSIN BADGERS

T.J. Watt TE Pewaukee- Pewaukee has Watt playing quarterback this year. Wisconsin recruited him as a tight end and that’s where I’d like to see Watt. He’s an all-around exceptional athlete, can run block and provides a nice target for the quarterback, all what the Badgers look for in a tight end. If the last name looks familiar, it’s because his brother J.J. was a standout for Wisconsin, where other brother Derek currently plays.

Alec James DE Brookfield East- Some say he’s the top defensive end in the state; others say he’s a close second. Either way you look at it, James is a playmaker and makes things happen on defense. He has the ability to get off the ball quick and can chase quarterbacks and running backs down when the play goes to the opposite side. He’s a top 25 defensive end in the nation and he will be a welcomed addition down in Madison. I say he makes an impact quickly for head coach Bret Bielema.

Chikwe Obasih DE Brookfield Central- The other talented top defensive end in the state and top 25 in the nation at his position, Obasih is very quick and athletic. He has a motor that never stops and he reminds me of Jared Allen in the sense that he will run the ball carrier down no matter what it takes. Another guy that will make an instant impact down in Madison.

Austin Ramesh RB Northland Pines- Great all-around running back. Not only can he run the ball and find the holes at the line of scrimmage, but he also can catch the ball out of the backfield. He is deceptively fast – it doesn’t look like he’s going that fast, but before you know it he’s down the sideline for a touchdown.

Jazz Peavy WR Kenosha Tremper- Speedy receiver who can go up and get the ball. Peavy can run past any defender and does a nice job of making defensive backs miss in the open field. Not only is Peavy a great wide receiver, but he is also a stand-out defensive back and could play either position well for the Badgers.

Hayden Biegel OL Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln- Biegel is the type of linemen the Badgers look for in a recruit; strong, powerful, and athletic. Biegel can open up holes for running backs and has no problem getting upfield to block a linebacker. He and Ramesh accepted grayshirt offers, meaning both will be able to participate with the team next summer, but both of their scholarships will not kick in until the following semester.
