There are reports that Matt Kemp’s new deal will be around 8 years and $160 million, longer than any contract the Dodgers have signed since Kevin Brown.

So, I’m sure when the ink hits the paper, is Matt Kemp really worth it?

I have to say yes, despite the haters who feel he strikes out too much or that he’s lazy or gets distracted easily, he carried the Dodger offense last season and if he had a normal season (about 300 25 95) then there’s no way they are over .500 or Kershaw wins the Cy Young he’ll get shortly.

I know after last season there are a lot of people who think he’ll regress again but I sincerely doubt it, that was one blip on an otherwise stellar career. Even if Matt Kemp had repeated what he did before his “down year” he still would’ve been worth a long term deal.

Tell me, even with his bad season, how many centerfielders are better than him? How many centerfielders even approach his combination of speed, power and defense? Nobody, that’s who, heck I don’t even think there’s a player in the pipes (minors) that can approach his level of talent.

Matt Kemp is a franchise guy, somebody you build around and I’m happy he’ll be a Dodger for a looong time.
