The Los Angeles Kings finally get to sip from Lord Stanley’s mug as they defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-1 in game six.

Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy as the playoff MVP.

Quick was nothing short of spectacular throughout the playoffs posting a 16-4 record with a 1.43 goals against average, and a remarkable .946 save percentage.

The Kings stumbled only slightly on their improbable run to the NHL championship as they became the first eighth seed to raise the Stanley Cup.

The Los Angeles Kings took the hardest road possible to the finals as they disposed of the top three seeds in the Western Conference along the way.

If not for a valiant effort by the Devils to come back in the Finals the Los Angeles Kings would have tied the all-time record for lowest number of games to win it all at 18 games.

With the win their coach Darryl Sutter can finally put to rest the nightmares of 2004 when his Calgary Flames seemed to have the Cup in their grasp only to have it snatched away by the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games.

Sutter led the Kings to the promised land after being shown the door earlier this season by Calgary.

Game six turned in the Kings favour when they were awarded a five minute powerplay after Steve Bernier hit Kings defender Rob Scuderi from behind. The Kings took full advantage by scoring three goals during the five minute span, and they never looked back.

The new champions were buoyed in game six by goals from captain Dustin Brown, Matt Greene, and two a piece from Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis.

With the win the Los Angeles Kings will celebrate the first Stanley Cup championship in the franchises’ 45 year history.
