Brewers’ ace Zack Greinke, who injured himself playing basketball in spring training, is making his 2011 regular-season debut in the second game of a double-header today.

This is big news for the Brew Crew, who could use Greinke’s services as they pull themselves out of a recent rut and try to get their record back above .500.

The offense has been a bigger problem than the starting pitching lately, but that doesn’t mean Greinke’s return can’t give the Brewers a boost.

Greinke will only pitch every five days, assuming he stays healthy and he’s pitching well enough. So he can’t save the Brewers every day, and he can’t score or drive in too many runs (although he does get to hit on the days he plays). But there’s no doubt that his presence can give the team a mental boost.

One that’s much needed.
