Craig Counsell to be a part of Milwaukee Brewers front office
Former Milwaukee Brewer Craig Counsell joined the team’s front office earlier today. He has been named the special assistant to general manager Doug Melvin.
Counsell played high school baseball in Whitefish Bay, WI where he currently lives with his family. He has two World Series rings in 16 seasons as he won with the 1997 Florida Marlins and the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks.
Over the last five seasons with the Brewers Counsell played an important role as the backup for second base, shortstop and third base. To have a defensive specialist that is capable of playing all three positions is important for any major league team. Unfortunately, last season was by far his worst as his offensive numbers declined rapidly. In 157 at-bats he batted .178 with nine RBI and one home run. He also went through a horrific 0-45 slump.
It didn’t really matter what his statistics were because the Milwaukee fans loved him anyway. He was one of the people, grew up a Brewer fan, and everyone knew it. Now Counsell will be a part of the Brewers for a long time to come as he helps improve the team and put a winner on the field. He always wanted to get a ring with his favorite team and unfortunately he was never able to do so as a player but that doesn’t mean he still can’t get one as a member of the Brewers.
