Doctors tell Twins slugger Morneau to stay home
[picappgallerysingle id="9187095"]Well, this is just terrific: yesterday, team doctors told Minnesota Twins first baseman (and team leader) Justin Morneau to just stay home. Morneau won’t practice or work out at all at Target Field until Friday at the earliest.
Great.
Justin Morneau, as everyone now knows, suffered a concussion on July 7th in Toronto while sliding into second base. Actually, given that he’s missed nearly two months of games and hasn’t had a single symptom-free day, I’d say Morneau suffered a pretty severe concussion.
Since the injury occurred, I’ve had this lingering suspicion that Justin Morneau will not return to the Minnesota Twins lineup this season. I’ve been brushed off and laughed at by most other Twins fans that I know, but the laughs are a little more half-hearted these days. And I’m not brushed off anymore – rather, my suspicions are met with frowns of concern.
If Morneau were to not return to the Minnesota Twins this season, it would be a devastating blow. I’m not truly certain that the Twins could make a real playoff stand without Morneau. Needless to say, it would be a major obstacle.
But, maybe a few days of complete rest is what Morneau needs. Maybe, rather than trying to work through it (which has clearly not been successful), Morneau should just nap for a week. I guess that’s what the doctors are saying, isn’t it?
I hope it works.
