Valencia Delivers
The twins racked up another win Wednesday against the Indians after Danny Valencia delivered again with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. The Twins were down one when Valencia came up and delivered a go- ahead single that started a three inning for the Twins. On Tuesday Valencia delivered with a walk- off single that gave the Twins another win. With the win Wednesday the Twins are now five games under .500 and are now five games behind the Indians for first place in the NL Central. They did not make up any ground though as they are in the same position that they were before the series with the Indians started. They split the series with the Indians after losing both games of a doubleheader on Monday.
Thursday the Twins will look to make up significant ground as they start a four game series with the first- place Tigers. The Twins have not yet beaten the Tigers this year, and the last time they faced the Tigers they stood sixteen and a half games out of first place after their loss to the aforementioned Tigers. Valencia is now 10-for-18 with 22 RBIs with the bases loaded in his career, and he also now has 21 RBIs in the seventh inning or later. The Indians played considerably well to lose, but did make a few mistakes that in the end to proved to be costly, the Twins as well made a few sizable mistakes that they happened to get away with. Twins starter Nick Blackburn only allowed four hits and one earned run in six innings of work. The bullpen kept pace after that only allowing one run, which was by closer Joe Nathan, and kept the Twins in the game long enough for Danny Valencia to once again bail them out. With their second win in a row the Twins hopes to make the playoffs stay alive as they are still within striking distance with only 58 games left in the season.
