Minnesota Vikings ready Joe Webb to start, again
[picappgallerysingle id="10412384"]
The Minnesota Vikings are preparing rookie Joe Webb to start this week against the Philadelphia Eagles, once again. This storyline is getting old. I know that several readers of this column are Brett Favre fans, but his participation on this team has become such a major distraction that the team simply can’t even prepare for games with him in the locker room.
Monday night was a perfect example with Favre coming out to throw and basically inserting himself back into the starting lineup. This needs to end and it needs to end on January 3rd when the organization is finally done with his contract, and shows him the door. He’ll be free to go torment some team in 2011, his outrageous $20 million dollar contract is finished and simply move on.
This was supposed to be the season that the Vikings took the next step and reached the Super Bowl, instead it has been a disaster. Favre had a magical season in 2009, but the streak is over, and it is now time to move on.
Former Vikings QB Fran Tarkenton agrees. While speaking in an interview with Philadelphia radio station 97.5, Tarkenton called Favre selfish and said, “Brett Favre’s day is done. And if you guys are lucky he’ll try to play again this week and you’ll beat ‘em 40-10,” Tarkenton told the station. “Joe Webb has more of a chance of beating them than Brett Favre. And I don’t say that in a disparaging way. That’s just the way it is.”
I couldn’t agree more.
