Will Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson Head to the Arizona Cardinals?
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson will be an unrestricted free agent when the NFL lockout ends and stated several days ago that is is “probably time to move on” from the Vikings.
He has been working out with some players at the University of Minnesota but will likely spend the 2011 season with a different NFL team.
Jackson, 28, was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2006 draft but has not proven himself worthy of a contract extension. He led the Vikings to an 8-4 record in 12 starts in 2007, and threw nine touchdowns against just two interceptions in 2008, but played poorly in a postseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008 NFC wild-card game and has been the backup to Brett Favre for the past two seasons.
Jackson has some talent as a passer, plus he’s versatile as a runner. He will be signed somewhere for the 2011 season.
And I think it could be with the Arizona Cardinals.
Yeah, the Cardinals have expressed lots of interest in Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb, and I think they’ll probably trade for him when the lockout ends.
But the Cardinals will need a backup to Kolb, and Derek Anderson, Max Hall, and John Skelton aren’t exactly the cream of the crop at the quarterback position.
Plus one of the players that Jackson has been throwing to at the workouts this summer has been Cardinals star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
You do the math, and Jackson could easily wind up in Arizona next season.
