The Associated Press released it’s All-Pro selections on Friday, Jared Allen fell one vote short of being a unanimous selection. Allen received 49 of the 50 votes, and was the other leading vote-getter with Detroit’s Calvin Johnson. This will mark the fourth time in Allen’s career that he has made the All-Pro team. Not to be confused with the Pro Bowl, the All-Pro team is an NFL team, and is not conference specific. Being an All-Pro means you are one of the best in the entire league, a much more prestigious honor. Many athletes get selected to various All-Star games in sports, very few make the elite “First Teams.”

Allen lead the league in 2011 with 22 sacks, falling just short of the single season sack record. Many, including myself feel this was his best season as a pro. There were lingering questions about Allen after 2010 which was his worst season in Minnesota, but he responded with his best. Being the league leader in sacks, Jared Allen has put himself in the driver’s seat to become NFL Defensive Player of the Year. There are a few others in the running: Jason Pierre-Paul, Darrelle Revis, DeMarcus Ware to name a few, but Allen has to the man this year. No other defensive player dominated the game as much as Allen did in 2011, and he deserves the honor of being called the best.
