Vikings Percy Harvin to Delay Shoulder Surgery; Reports of a Fight Surface
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin has announced that he will delay his shoulder surgery that was previously scheduled for today.
“To all my fans did not undergo surgery today had to put on back burner to support my family through emergency thanks,” Harvin said on Twitter.
It’s unknown at this time what the family emergency is, but it’s obviously significant enough to postpone a surgery, albeit a minor one.
In other Percy Harvin news, reports have surfaced of a tumultuous past with the Florida Gators. According to the Pioneer Press and the Sporting News, Harvin had a multitude of issues during his time in Florida, from a failed drug test, to a physical altercation with wider receivers coach Billy Gonzales.
“Harvin also refused to run stadium steps with the rest of the team during off-season conditioning before the 2007 season, according to the Sporting News, and once allegedly threw wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales to the ground by his neck.”
Urban Meyer did make a comment on the issue,
“Something did happen and something was handled. I don’t think it’s fair to Percy Harvin or Billy Gonzales to talk about it.”
Clearly, Meyer is staying out of this one.
Billy Gonzales who is now the offensive coordinator at the University of Illinois, told the Sporting News that the incident was “overblown.”
At this point, which is several years removed from these alleged incidents, who really cares? If Harvin did have some issues, it seems that he’s gotten over them. In 2011 he won the Korey Stringer Good Guy award, which goes to a Viking who displays professionalism in dealing with the media.
It seems if Harvin did at one time have problems in his life, he’s worked toward, and maybe fully resolved them. I say good for him, and hopefully his family emergency is taken care of quickly and he can get the operation he needs on his shoulder soon.
