The biggest question facing the Minnesota Vikings in 2012 is the health of running back Adrian Peterson as he works his way back from tearing multiple ligaments in his left knee late last season. There is some good news in that regard, as Peterson has told reporters he could return to practice as soon as Sunday and he does not want to wear a brace on the knee when he does return to regular practice.

Peterson has admitted some numbness in the patella tendon area of the knee, but that is considered common and not a big concern. Vikings’ head coach Leslie Frazier has added to the positive buzz by saying there are no indications Peterson will not be ready for Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Peterson obviously will not play in Minnesota’s preseason opener on Friday night against the San Francisco 49ers, but it’s fair to think he could play in the team’s third preseason game if he does not have any setbacks before then. The team has expressed a desire to get him some game action during preseason games, which is not too surprising as long as he remains on track to be ready for the start of the season.
