The New York Mets rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to beat the Braves 7-6 this afternoon in Grapefruit League action from Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson pitched well for the Braves, pitching five strong innings and allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out five, but relievers Jonny Venters, Billy Wagner, and Scott Proctor were ineffective, allowing three hits, five walks, and five runs (three earned) in their three innings pitched.
Offensively, Yunel Escobar had a two-run blast for Atlanta, while Chipper Jones and Omar Infante reached base in both of their plate appearances, with Jones going 1-for-1 with a run-batted-in and Infante going 2-for-2.
Melky Cabrera and Martin Prado also played well for the Braves, with the two 1-2 hitters both reaching base in two of three at-bats, while going 1-for-2 at the plate.
The Braves will now return to their spring training home at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports to take on the Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 ET.
