The Houston Astros are set to get slugger Lance Berkman back tonight against the Florida Marlins. Its a moment that couldn’t come too soon.
Though they have actually won three of their last four, the Astros still sit at the foot of the NL Central at 3-9. Offensive struggles were a big reason why. They scored just 14 runs in their first 8 games and though they have won three of four they still have only scored 14 runs in those four games, not exactly mind-blowing.
Carlos Lee’s struggles have been well-documented. He has just five hits, none for extra bases, has just one walk and zero RBI. Hunter Pence hasn’t been much better, hitting .156 with one homer and two RBI. In fact, the team as a whole has just three home runs.
Berkman should help change that. Last season the switch-hitting slugger hit .312 with 29 homers and 106 RBI.
