Paul Konerko delivered a game-winning two-run blast and Gavin Floyd and two relievers combined on a two-hitter as the Chicago White Sox beat the Braves 2-0 this afternoon.
Konerko’s eighth inning blast broke up a scoreless tie and propelled the White Sox to the 2-0 win, while Floyd, J.J. Putz, and Bobby Jenks combined to toss a two-hit shutout at the Braves.
The game featured a great pitchers duel between Floyd and Atlanta starter Derek Lowe, who matched Floyd pitch-for-pitch and threw seven shutout innings of his own, allowing just five hits.
Konerko’s game-winning blast came off Atlanta reliever Takashi Saito (1-3), who took the loss for the Braves.
J.J. Putz (3-2) pitched a scoreless eighth inning and picked up the win for the White Sox, and closer Bobby Jenks pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his 17th save of the season.
Chicago improved to 37-34 with the win, while the loss dropped Atlanta to 42-31.
