Blue Jays Sign Ricky Romero to five-year extension

  The Toronto Blue Jays have signed left-hander pitcher Ricky Romero today, to a five-year, $30.1 million contract extension that will run from the 2011 to 2015 season with a club option for the 2016 season. This was another well-timed move by Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos, who managed to secure a young potential ace for a reasonable, but fair, salary. The advantage to signing Romero now, is eliminating the risk that he has a stellar 2011 season and then seeks the subsequent higher salary demands that a superb season would dictate.
